MRSA/ STAPH Infections

What is MRSA?

MRSA stands for Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus.

Staphylococcus Aureus is a mutated type of "staph" bacteria resistant to a large variety of antibiotics. Staph bacteria is known to live on skin and nose without creating any problems. The only time it becomes a problem is when they cause an infection on the skin. For people with a week immune system, a staph infection could be fatal if not treated on time. Unlike other staph infections, MRSA ca not be treated with the antibiotic methicillin.

People who use antibiotics often and not correctly are more likely to develop MRSA. That is why the use of antibiotics on MRSA does not offer relief. MRSA is considered a "Super Bug".

What is the cause of MRSA?

MRSA in lab

Like many other staph bacteria, MRSA can be spread through contact or contaminated objects. It can usually be spread from the hands of a person who has MRSA.
MRSA can also be spread through the air if a person has MRSA pneumonia and is coughing.
There are two types of MRSA known so far: HA-MRSA and CA-MRSA.

Hospitals environments are extremely prone to spread MRSA. The type of MRSA contracted in a hospital setting is called HA-MRSA. The HA-MRSA usually occurs in existing wounds, burns, IV's or other places where tubes enter the body like catheters or breathing tubes.

HA-MRSA can also infect the eyes, blood, bones, heart or lungs.

HA-MRSA is an increasing health issue with MRSA infections growing from 2% in 1974 to 63% in 2004 off total Staph infections.

The HA-MRSA appears as a red, infected and painful area on the body. It may followed by fever and throbbing around the infected area.

CA-MRSA is a type of MRSA called Community-Based MRSA.

MRSA is becoming increasingly common among healthy people. The infection occurs on people with cuts or wounds and who come in contact with one another in environments like sport teams, military units, day care etc.

MRSA infections can spread and become very dangerous in a short amount of time. Seeking medical help is highly recommended.

Manuka Honey benefits:

Treating MRSA with Manuka Honey

With growing concerns over the high immunity of Staphylococcus Aureus and other super bugs to the conventional antibiotics, the need for Active Manuka Honey research has become an urgency in the medical world.

Scientists around the world are conducting researches and anecdotal evidence proves that Active Manuka Honey could be the new treatment for MRSA and any other severe skin infections.

mrsa infection

Reports from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention(CDC), state that resistance to antibiotics occurs when bacteria mutates in a way that eliminates or reduces the affectivity of drugs. Bacteria survives medication and continues to multiply causing more damage. Studies show that at least 70% of bacteria is now immune to at least one kind of antibiotic.

Manuka Honey destroys bacteria by drawing all the moisture out of the cells. It damages the environment that bacteria multiples in and in turn kills bacteria. No bacteria is known to have developed a resistance to Active Manuka Honey.

Medical researchers in Trenton New Jersey are now producing a Medical Gauze made with Manuka Honey. In the case of MRSA, studies show that the bacteria forms a septum through the middle, creating to separate cells. Manuka Honey interfere with the separation process, preventing MRSA from multiplying.

mrsa gauze

Manuka Honey can be applied directly on the cleaned wound and covered with septic gauze.

In the beginning a slight tingle will be felt. Depending on the tolerance, Manuka Honey can be left on the skin for at least 20-30 minutes at a time.
