Gum Disease and Manuka Honey
 |
GINGIVITIS
Gum disease is known to affect aver 80% of Americans over 35 years of age. Bleeding gums could be an early sign of gum disease.
Untreated Gum Disease is regarded to be the cause of many other health issues like diabetes, heart disease, liver and kidney problems etc.
The beginning stage of gum disease is called gingivitis. |
PERIODONITIS
The gums swell, get inflamed and start bleeding. The inflammation is caused by bacteria growing on food stuck to the teeth. If left untreated gingivitis could lead to periodontitis. The infection in the gums will eventually attack the bone causing teeth to become loose and bad breath( haliotosis).
A bad oral health can cause other serious health problems. That is why a dedicated oral hygiene is recommended to prevent gum disease.
Treating gum diseases like periodontal disease can be a difficult task. Antibiotic treatment like tetracycline is usually prescribed by the dentist and in many advanced cases surgery is the only way out.
STUDY:
A pilot study was conducted using 30 volunteers and the results proved that Active Manuka Honey might have a therapeutic role in treating gum disease and periodontal disease.
Manuka honey is proven to be unaffected by natural body enzymes. This means that the antibacterial properties of Manuka Honey cannot be destroyed by the body fluids allowing Manuka honey to have killed the bacteria that causes gum disease before it gets dissolved into the system. |
